I grew up in Seattle in the 90s, the epicenter of grunge rock, during the ascendancy of Starbucks and Microsoft. I met a charming, handsome boy at university who shared my proclivity for extreme academic Bible study and married him, which, has work out exceedingly well.
I use to have hobbies before I became a mother... stereotypical Northwesterner stuff; kayaking, hiking, camping, international travel, whenever possible. My children, their interests and pleasures, have entirely eclipsed my earlier diversions. I now enjoy nothing more than watching ballet practice, doing science experiments in our potting shed, finding worms in our vegetable garden, throwing birthday parties and swimming at the lake.
I have two young daughters, thus invention and execution of strategies for their education and the development of their character occupies a good deal of my time. I suppose my true hobby is growing girls. I hope to instill in them a deep appreciation for the unprecedented opportunities the privileged context of their birth will provide them as women. That in critically engaging their Judeo-Christian heritage they will come to understand the duty of the empowered to advocate and intercede for the oppressed; that, however they may choose to exercise their gifts, the cornerstone of their orientation to the world is one of justice.
My most favorite thing in life is to sit next to my husband with a coffee and listen to our girls explain the world to us...
